While most riders that are currently in the AMA pro ranks started either on dirt or dirt, their are a couple that came from something smaller. Most notably is British transplant Chaz Davies, now riding for Attack Kawasaki. In a recent interview on the nationally syndicated Pit Pass Moto Racing Weekly radio show, Davies gave a brief history of his motorcycle upbringing. He explained to the hosts that he started on minimoto bikes, which was explained as bikes much smaller than a YSR.
With riders like Haga, Rossi, and now Davies showing the value of these two wheeled toys, this line of questioning may repeat itself a few times over. Especially as the first wave of American pocketbike racers grow into real bikes.
